a small morph with a KRL of max. 40 mm

D.tinc. Nominat is characterized by a spinal drawing perforated by a yellow bar. Silverstone described it as a yellow bridge on a black ground in 1975 (Lescure also followed this description). In the habitat, this is clearly marked in the large number of animals, with a morphology of color and pattern as in every morph.

The flank coloring and patterning is unmistakable, runs from a yellow color through black dots to a fine dotted belly side on a white to light blue background.

The term 'nominat' is widespread and common, but unfortunately scientifically wrong. In Tinctorius, there is no taxonomic structure which requires the use of this term (only species divided into subspecies have a nominative form), otherwise the scientific name would have to contain two subordinate names, namely Dendrobates tinctorius tinctorius.

The correct name of this morph should therefore be called: Local form most similar to the Holotype for Dendrobates tinctorius .

On the way to D.tinc. 'Nominat' - text and pictures: Jürg Sommerhalder

This single asphalted road leads from the town of Roura through the Montagnes de Kaw to Kaw, just 50 km away. Here you can find the nominee morphs on both sides of the street in numerous places.

Just a few kilometers to Roura, one reaches a viewpoint that reveals the woods, which represent the habitat of the morphea.

Already here at the viewpoint, right next to the road, D. tinctorius 'Nominat' bounces in the secondary forest .

D.tinc. 'Nominat' - photographed in the 'montagnes de kaw' at about 250 mn on the 'sentier botanique de la réserve naturelle Trésor'.

They seem particularly like to stay near large rootstocks.

A few kilometers further, in the middle of Montagnes de Kaw, there is a botanical path through the secondary forest. It is called "Sentier botanique des Montagnes de Kaw".

Another 20 kilometers further, also in the Kaw-hills, is the camp Caiman, a very simple lodge. In the forest behind the lodge, a path leads down to the local river, where I have also seen D. tinctorius 'nominat' , but the animals could not photograph.

7- Ouanary  /  blue jeans / Monts Bruyère :

This morph is the same size as 'Nominat'.

The Habitat is located west of the mouth of the Oyapock River between the Oyapock River and the Ouanary River near a small mountain called 'Montagne Bruyère'.
