- Takydromus septentrionalis :
Short Description: Family: Lacertidae; Genus:Takydromus; Takydromus septentrionalis(Stejneger, 1907)
Distribution: Central China
Head-trunk length: up to 78 mm. The tail length is up to 3.6 times the KRL (Boulenger, 1917)
The animals are still singled out under the tradename "Takydromus major" (major = capital, largest). This trade name probably refers to the quite impressive body size of this species compared to other Takydromus spec. (see also: SCHLÜTER, The long tail lizard of the genus Takydromus)
introduction :
A few years ago, I had the opportunity on a reptile exchange to see several Takydromus septentrionalis wilds "live". Impressed by the size and the conspicuous coloring of these animals, there was really nothing in the way of an entry of this massive species into my small terrarium room - unfortunately, it was only males, which were offered there. So I left my heart with a heavy heart ...
In May 2011 - again on a stock exchange - I was offered several adult Takydromus septentrionalis. It was obvious to the animals that they had taken a long journey not so long ago. In spite of various moulting remnants and some older scars, the animals made a strong impression.
The purchased group purchased one for Takydromus spec. terrarium and took up water and food in just a few minutes - not a bad sign.
In the following days and weeks, faeces will have to show whether and in what form a treatment against parasites will be necessary ...
Mating and egg laying :
The first oviposition took place a few days after the purchase of the animals. Three eggs were deposited under a moospolster. The eggs were visually flawless and were incubated under the same conditions as the clutches of my Takydromus smaragdinus.
The first oviposition took place a few days after the purchase of the animals. Three eggs were deposited under a moospolster. The eggs were visually flawless and were incubated under the same conditions as the clutches of my Takydromus smaragdinus.
This first observed pairing lasted just over three and a half hours!
incubation :
The eggs of Takydromus septentrionalis are also incubated under the same conditions as those of the Takydromus smaragdinus. A mixture of fine vermiculite and water in the ratio of 1: 1 in non-gelled carnations at 27-28 ° C also fulfills the necessary conditions for hatching young animals.
After 34 days of incubation, the first young animals hatched.
